Jamie Oliver's "Food Revolution"

Check this out Friday night on ABC ... Jamie Oliver's "Food Revolution" disturbing - like watching a wreck as you drive by. The British chef, Jamie Oliver, goes to Huntington, West Virginia, to try and reform the school lunch program and educate the parents/citizens on the obesity epidemic affecting our nation. He encounters no small amount of resistance from the local school system bureaucracy and employees... in addition to ridiculous USDA requirements. As a thinking human being, you will be astonished...shock and awe, for sure. Don't misunderstand, no superiority here and I'm not hating on WV...this is everywhere and it matters!

As a food professional, vegetarian and athlete I am passionate about the food I eat and living a healthy lifestyle. I also believe in eating locally as much as possible....I feel that stewardship of the earth and its resources is a moral issue as well as an environmental issue. There are many statistics and studies published about physical activity, obesity and the effects of these choices but it is alarming to SEE what the statistics look like in color and in your living room.

Polyvore...I could get addicted to this!

My niece, Shani, turned me on to this site... http://polyvore.com/
I spent about 15 minutes online this morning looking at clothes and colors and interior decorating ideaboards and stuff. I can see hours of my life slipping away... it would be so easy. Kind of like when I was a younger young person, and played video games, and 3 hours would pass in mere moments. It's like that. Like catnip for kittens... Having a somewhat addictive personality (see hobbies and profile!) I will have to monitor the amount of time I spend here...

On another note, today is Eric Clapton's 65th birthday... he has been around since I was a kid...it scares me when people I have been aware of all my life start racking up BIG birthdays. My aunt Ann and I went to see him here in Nashville last month at the Gaylord/Bridgestone/"whatever the hell it is" Arena .... Ann was muy excited!!

I have decided to try and have a balanced approach to my workout schedule (read: Not ridiculous to the point of setting myself up for disappointment/failure). My first race this year is Mach Tenn on June 5, http://machtenn.org with my goal race for the year being the Augusta 1/2 IM in September http://www.ironmanaugusta.com/.... I started triathlon in 2007 and Augusta will be my first Half. I am very excited and looking forward to a season of training and traveling with my peeps!! It is absolutely beautiful here in Nashville today... 65* and sunny with 28% humidity.....and the week only gets better!

happy Spring!
