Rev3 Costa Rica opened today...

I love the look of this... the half rev is February 20, 2011. The registration fee is STEEP...$250..holy ^%$!! But what else will I be doing in February of 2011 besides looking for a way to escape the winter here in Nashville?? I've had some friends express some interest so maybe I can find some peeps to share some of the cost and make it a winter racing vacation... I do love warm weather!!
Nashville is warm now... it feels like summer is here even though it hasn't officially (or unofficially) started yet! It looks like warm and sunny for the next few days....that should help with the continued cleanup after the FLOOD!!!! earlier this month...

I've struggled to get into a groove with everything going on... workouts are increasing (my first race is in less than 2 weeks....where did May go?); I have started studying for my Personal Trainer Certification (I haven't studied for anything in a VERY long time) and I am still managing my catering business .... I keep reminding myself that I have asked for all of this and I am making the choices that are guiding my life. My goal is to give my workouts 100% this year... no slacking, no excuse making, no half measures. The same goes with getting my certification... it was a little (a lot) intimidating the first few days and I felt a lot of fear and doubt about the choices I was making. After more contemplation, I kept coming back to being ready to make a change and being convinced that the Sports/Training/Health field is where I want to be (and where I think I can help other people)!! It excites me to think that I can have a job where I get to encourage people to make positive changes in their lives, to help others reach beyond their perceived limits and to pass on some of the enthusiasm I feel for living a healthy and mindful life. What an awesome life I have.... smile

family time...
I just got back from Breana's high school graduation down in West Palm Beach!! She graduated from the Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts and is headed to school in Savannah this fall. My dad and I flew down Wednesday AM and we never stopped. We had lunch with my sister Sheryl and her family on Wednesday afternoon and then Sheryl, the girls and I did some shopping for graduation clothes that night.
Thursday morning Sheryl and I got to run together...she is training for her FIRST HALF MARATHON this fall and I am so proud of her!! She is training with Team in Training and will be doing the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon on October 2, 2010. Sheryl is training consistently and is getting stronger ...as evidenced by quicker recovery times and her ability to run longer with fewer walk breaks!! We ran 3.5 miles in the bright Florida sunshine on Thursday morning and got to spend some time together hanging out, working out, talking about life.....and running!!! After that we did some shopping for graduation gifts and then the 10 of us headed down to the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach for the festivities. I am so happy that my dad and I were able to make the trip and be there for Breana's big night... to share that experience with her!! Family is so many complicated things for so many of us but at it's best (I think) it is a source of support and connection in this big world!
As usual, I did not get as many pictures as I wanted but I did get a few good ones of the kids and my baby sis!
Lots of fun stuff coming up this weekend ......my sweetie's birthday Saturday!! ..long run with Bob and BJ Saturday AM!!.... a bike/run brick on Sunday!!....Taylor will be home for a couple of days!!! AND it looks like the weather will accomodate!!!!!!!!!!!
Yippee!!!

how much snot can one person have??
So I've been sick for one week...started last Friday in Destin and yep, it's still here! I keep blowing and blowing but there seems to be no end in sight. What up with that? As much as anything, it is affecting my energy/stamina and I am ready for that to stop. I swam Wednesday, ran easy Thursday, swam Friday (1 mile) and ran about 5 or 6 today...it's kind of hard to run when you can't breathe. I had some momentum building in my workouts and I don't want to lose it..... I am planning an easy exploratory run with Hannah tomorrow AM (we will check out Edwin Warner Park, I think) and then a ride tomorrow afternoon out on the Trace. My first tri is Mach-Tenn on June 5th and I want to be feeling strong and confident by then!!
I have read some race reports and blogs about the Rev3 Tri in Knoxville last weekend...I'm quite interested in the Costa Rica tri they will be hosting in February, 2011. I get a little intimidated about transporting my bike for races but I might just tough this one out... I've ALWAYS wanted to go to Costa Rica and February is a perfect time to get the hell out of Nashville. I have read a lot about timing problems in Knoxville but all of that seems to have been resolved by now....for the steep price ($250) plus travel related expenses you really want to have an almost perfect experience!
After watching Audrey last weekend at the Gulf Coast Tri I have to admit to a little terror at the thought that I have signed myself up for that type of torture come September. I just kept thinking,"Damn! That looks ....hard...exhausting...long......hard...hot!" I am trusting that when the
time comes my training will have me prepared....I have been running and training long enough and I have seen it work like that each time. Training for Augusta starts in earnest the end of this month and I am mentally ready to hit it and be consistent...I am looking forward to training with my friends this summer..Nashville will be well represented in Augusta on September 26!! I just have to kick this stupid headcold..aggh!!
I am heading back to West Palm next week for Breana's graduation..she will be heading to the Savannah College of Art and Design in the fall. She is muy talented and I am super excited for her and a proud aunty!!

pics from Gulf Coast Tri, May 8, 2010
The skies were overcast until around 11AM and then the Florida sun popped out and the heat picked up.
Headed out on the bike....7:35AM...
After the swim...7:10AM ...the water was pretty choppy and I saw a few people being towed in...

unbelievable..
It started raining about 7A yesterday morning and it has not stopped. Interstates are closed, people are stranded and at least one fatality has occurred as a result of the weather...according to the National Weather Service high winds, hail and more rain are forecasted before the end of the day. This link is to pictures of my church and the flooding of the Harpeth River as of May 1, 2010.
